So what is Design Thinking anyways?
Design Thinking is a methodology used by designers to solve complex problems, and find desirable solutions for clients.
Design Thinking draws upon logic, imagination, intuition, and systemic reasoning, to explore possibilities of what could be, and to create desired outcomes that benefit the end user (the customer). A design mindset is not problem-focused; it’s solution focused, and action oriented. It involves both analysis and imagination.
What are the distinguishing characteristics of Design Thinking?
- Empathy – participants learn how to interview and observe a user. This can be done in pairs or trios. Pairs are often preferred.
- Debrief – this is usually done in a larger group to facilitate cross-learning. Ideal group size is between 6 and 10. Each group ideally has a facilitator.
- Define – This is where all the observations and interviews are synthesized into a clear statement of the problem to be solved. This is also best done in a group of 6 to 10 and accompanied by a facilitator per group.
- Brainstorm – This is done to generate as many ideas and potential solutions as possible. Again best done with 6 to 10 people.
- Prototype – Here we pick one to three of our most exciting ideas from the brainstorm, then we do our best to create a situation, drawing, or whatever we think gets us to the core emotions at the heart of the user’s needs.
- Test – Next, we bring the user into our prototyping process to get their feedback on whether or not our rough sketch or simulated solution in Step 5 is close to what they need.

Workshop Highlights
At the heart of Design Thinking Camp is a field research project that gives you the opportunity to learn by doing. Every session tackles a real-world business challenge presented by an outside company. You and your team will collaborate with this company to enhance the customer experience by:
- Interviewing key management and personnel
- Observing and interviewing customers in the field
- Ideating, designing, prototyping, and iterating to develop new solutions
Then, you’ll present those innovative ideas to company management. There’s no better way to practice what we teach.
Who Should Attend?
This training is open to people who are;
- Business owners and managers responsible for tackling strategic challenges at their organizations
- Team members of businesses but who want to collaborate on design thinking
